Throwing Pies and Sliming Principal Pritts!

As a reward for raising $145 for Jump Rope for Heart (the students had to jump rope for 45 min. and collected pledges...and believe me, Katelyn practiced and practiced her jump roping in our driveway), Katelyn was able to throw a pie in her PE teachers face and "slime" her principal.
This almost did not happen. The day before, poor Katelyn came down with strep throat. She had a fever, was vomitting, but luckily has started strong antibiotics. Her teacher and I were e-mailing a Plan B for her, incase she was still too sick to go to school. We knew she'd be devastated if she missed out. Thankfully, her antibiotics kicked in over night and she woke up fever-free and ate a great breakfast. She had another dose of antibiotics, then I nervously took her to school. I would have kept her home if she didn't have this big event, but I really didn't want her to miss it. She did fine and it always amazes me how quickly she bounces back from being so sick!

Katelyn and Brady waiting for her turn to slime her principal.

Here is Katelyn sliming her principal, Mr. Pritts. The slime was actually green applesauce. As you can see, Katelyn was not shy!

Katelyn throws a pie (well, a plate with whip cream on it) into her beloved PE teacher's face. We hear about Coach Mazzola CONSTANTLY!! He was a good sport and she loved doing this!

The other kindergarten students lining up, ready to get their teacher and principal filthy!

All the other kindergarteners watched from the playground.

Family Talent

The Jacksons and Von Trapps have nothing on us :-) Check out the talent of our family...Hollywood here we come!
For some reason, Katelyn suddenly has an interest in staging talent shows. I should say, "talent" shows. Not a shy bone in her body and she will put on a show every night of the week. Here a few snapshots (and keep scrolling down for a few quick video clips) of Burless talent.

Katelyn is actually imitating Brady, showing off her balance. We were at Barnes and Noble, on the stage in the children's section.

Brady keeps doing this move...home or away, he wants to show off this yoga pose. Here he is at Barnes and Noble.

Bryan's talent: re-doing our floors! Goodbye ugly carpet and hello wood laminate. This is our office and he also re-did our bedroom. Looks so much better!!

Brady is dancing and singing a song he made up called "Welcome to the Elmo Show." That is pretty much the only lyric. He performed as the finale to Katelyn's talent show at home.

Katelyn received this red kazoo at Sunday School (still not sure why...) and she was so excited about it. She wanted to present a talent show Sunday night to show off her skills. We had to limit her to 3 songs!

She dressed up in her favorite, fanciest nightgown for the show :-)

Can you identify the song?
It's "Firework" by Katy Perry :-)

Brady learned how to "whistle" and performed this at the talent show at home. He was a bit hyper and excited to be on camera!

March = Month of Sickness

In like a lion, out like a lion. March has been brutal to our family. Every time we think we've turned the corner, someone else is sick...it's been unreal.
And this is why this is my only post in March.
First, Brady had the flu, which he graciously passed on to Bryan, then to me. We were each down for about 5 days....there's most of the month right there!
Then, to keep her spring tradition, Katelyn came down with strep throat. In my opinion, strep makes kids the most miserable. Between the razor blades in their throat and high fever, they are just so sick.
So, we're at the end of March...gotta be done with sickness, right?
Negative...please enter the dreaded stomach virus. Only this time, BOTH kids got it at the same time! That is a first in this house. Katelyn started vomitting at 1:41 am (yes, I remember the exact time she came running into our room, panic-stricken, yelling "I threw up! I threw up!) and the poor girl was sick about every 20 min. until 4am. Clean up, go to sleep on the couch, and then cries from Brady's room, "I threw up! I threw up!" and he's sitting in it. He had a terrible time, screaming every time he vomitted, terrified of throwing up into the toilet, and he had the record for the day...puking 10 times. My mom (retired pediatric nurse...basically my pediatrician on-call) and the pediatrician had me giving him Gatorade every 10 min. until he could keep it down.
I can't wait for April!!!!
